The Kenya Scouts Association (KSA) continues to strengthen its commitment to nurturing responsible, healthy and empowered young people through partnerships that address challenges affecting youth development.
Through its engagement with the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) KSA is empowering young people and the youth with knowledge and skills on substance abuse prevention, peer education, and community advocacy with an aim of building a healthier, safer, and drug-free future.
Through discussions and awareness sessions, NACADA’s engagement helps Scouts understand the risks associated with alcohol and drug abuse, the influence of peer pressure and the importance of making responsible personal choices. The interaction also creates an opportunity for participants to appreciate the role of early prevention, positive mentorship and community awareness in protecting young people from substance-related harm.

During the national Rover mate training in Mombasa County, Rover Scouts as young leaders within the Scout Movement, who are well positioned to influence their peers and promote positive behavioral change were trained on how to initiate conversations about substance-use prevention, challenge harmful misconceptions and encourage fellow young people to adopt healthier lifestyles.

Through this partnership, KSA and NACADA go beyond individual awareness by addressing challenges that require sustained community action.
