The Kenya Scouts Association develops young people into responsible citizens through leadership training, community service, environmental conservation, outdoor education, and character development, while promoting peace, patriotism, and sustainable development.
We do this through:
- Youth Development – Youth development is the core mission of the Kenya Scouts Association. Through Scouting programs, young people are empowered with knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes that enable them to become responsible citizens and leaders in their communities. The Association uses the Scout Method, which emphasizes learning by doing, teamwork, outdoor activities, community service, and personal progression. Through these approaches, Scouts develop self-confidence, discipline, resilience, leadership skills, and a spirit of service.
- Character Building – Character building is a fundamental aspect of the Scouting program. Through the Scout Promise and Scout Law, Scouts learn and practice values that shape them into responsible, trustworthy, and ethical individuals. The Association promotes character development by providing opportunities for young people to learn through experience, service, leadership, and teamwork. Scouts are encouraged to demonstrate honesty, integrity, respect, loyalty, self-discipline, and responsibility in their daily lives.
- Leadership Training – Leadership training is a cornerstone of the Scouting Movement. The Kenya Scouts Association equips young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to lead effectively in their patrols, schools, communities, and future careers. Scouting develops leadership through practical experience, allowing young people to learn by doing. Through the Patrol System, Scouts take on responsibilities, make decisions, solve problems, and work collaboratively with others to achieve common goals.
- Community Service – Community service is a central pillar of Scouting and an important way through which the Kenya Scouts Association contributes to national development. Through service projects, Scouts learn the value of helping others, giving back to society, and becoming active citizens. Scouts are encouraged to identify needs within their communities and take practical action to address them. These activities not only benefit communities but also help young people develop compassion, responsibility, leadership, and teamwork. Areas of Community Service Environmental Conservation, Health and Sanitation, Support for Vulnerable Groups, Disaster Response and Preparedness, Drug Abuse Prevention and Social Awareness, and Community Development Projects.
- Environmental Conservation – Environmental conservation is a key area of focus for the Kenya Scouts Association. Through hands-on activities and community-based initiatives, Scouts are empowered to become responsible stewards of the environment and champions of sustainable development. Scouting promotes a deep appreciation for nature and encourages young people to take practical action in addressing environmental challenges such as climate change, deforestation, pollution, biodiversity loss, and land degradation.
