October 17th – 18th 2026 | Scouts Connecting Across Borders

The Kenya Scouts Association (KSA), in partnership with the Radio Society of Kenya (RSK) and the WOSM Africa Support Centre successfully held the 2026 Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) and Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI), bringing together Scouts to explore radio communication, digital technology and international friendship.

This year Scouts in Mombasa, Nairobi and Uasin Gishu Counties took part in the event with where they interacted with Scouts from Japan, Tanzania and Madagascar on the internet, on the radio and on WhatsApp Charnels.

As the world’s largest digital and radio Scout event, JOTA-JOTI connects millions of young people globally, allowing them to exchange ideas, build cross-border friendships, and experience international Scouting through amateur radio and online platforms.

Through this collaboration, KSA and RSK aim to expand access to technology-based learning. Scouts are introduced to the fundamentals of radio communication, responsible internet use, and the power of technology to connect communities. RSK provides essential technical expertise, helping Scouts explore radio operations and communication protocols. Scouts also learnt how radio technology supports information sharing and emergency response. Participating Scouts were successfully trained on Voice contact through the amateur radio station on the International Space Station (ISS), the ICAO/NATO phonetic alphabet and standard radio procedure, Amateur radio callsigns and correct station identification and VHF, UHF and HF radio communication, including simplex and repeater operation.

The event also highlighted the importance of online safety and responsible digital engagement by equipping them with the knowledge to navigate online spaces safely and reinforcing messages on protecting personal information, recognizing online risks, respecting others online and reporting inappropriate digital interactions.

JOTA-JOTI also provided a platform to promote friendship, teamwork, respect and international understanding among participating Scouts both locally and beyond the Kenyan borders.

For the Kenya Scouts Association, JOTA-JOTI is more than an annual communication event; it is a platform for youth empowerment. It reflects the Association’s commitment to equipping young people with practical life skills, encouraging innovation and enabling them to take an active role in shaping their communities and the future.

As technology continues to transform education, employment and social interaction, initiatives such as JOTA-JOTI help ensure that Scouts are not left behind. Instead, they are encouraged to embrace emerging opportunities, use technology responsibly and become agents of positive change.
